While the weather so far this September has still felt a lot like summer, the fall activities are certainly underway. Flag football is something that has been a campus activity for about as long as most people can remember. It has seen pretty solid involvement and excitement from the high schoolers almost every year. When Covid-19 hit, however, it took a toll on the number of people that played, and there were a few down years in participation. We are happy to report that has not been the case for the last three years now, and flag football is thriving! Under the guise of a new name, the IFFL (Immanuel Flag Football League) has upped the standard for flag football here at Immanuel.

This year featured the 2nd annual draft 'combine' for high schoolers to showcase their different talents before the drafting of teams took place by 4 of the college boys on the highly anticipated draft night. There is also a very balanced participation among the classes, with 10 Freshman, 7 Sophomores, 7 Juniors, and 7 Seniors signing up to play. Besides just the combine, the league also has an Instagram page, where game scores, players of the week, game polls and other things all get posted. This year even saw the introduction of a Spotify podcast! With the first week of games underway, there is a lot to look forward to this year flag football wise, and we thank the Lord for all the blessings we've had so far!

Signs of Spring on Campus?

Flowers blooming? Trees blossoming? Grass greening? Signs of spring, yes, but on the Immanuel campus, there are some unique yet familiar to former students, signs of spring besides what the Lord has created for us in nature. 🌺 TRACK:  Coaches Steve Sydow and Eve Naumann and assistants begin working with this year's group of track athletes. The pleasant weather means they may get out sooner than usual. Practice begins Monday, March 4. 🌳  SOFTBALL/BASEBALL:  The unseasonably mild weather may also allow softball coaches Lillo and Tiefel and baseball coaches Lau and Roehl to get their teams outside earlier than usual and participate in their full schedule of  practices and  games. Sportsmanship Clinic

I served as chaperone for the sportsmanship clinic on Thursday, October 19 at Eleva-Strum High School. On the way down to Eleva, the van was filled with quiet conversation, but on the way back to campus, there was lots of chatter as the students talked about their experiences during the event. I sat in the back of the room and listened to the presentation. Craig Hillier is an engaging presenter and his content on teamwork and leadership can be applied to many situations that students will encounter throughout their lives. The speaker began with some fun ice-breakers which got the students out of their shells (and comfort zones). He shared personal anecdotes to illustrate his points and mixed up his presentation with lots of movement—including a rowdy game of Simon Says. I enjoyed watching our students from Immanuel meet and interact with students from other schools in the Dairyland Conference.
