Early Bonding

Although 3/4th of the student body have known each other for a couple of years, there are close to 40 new students on campus and finding ways to get  everyone comfortable with each other can be a challenge. Obviously over time that happens naturally, but this year, the heat wave had a silver lining. As mentioned in a previous post, during the extremely hot evenings last week, the residents of each dorm found a cooler place to spend the evening with the girls in the AC library and the boys in the Commons lounge. Courtney Agenten, the girls dorm parent, noted that the girls really bonded, being in the same room. I can only imagine the same was true with the boys. So, as usual, the Lord finds ways to make all things work out for our good. One other bonding experience occurred as it does each year when Leave It Better springs into action. Students get together to work on projects which, well, leave it better on campus. Not all students can make every project but they show up when they can

Handling the Heat!

There was a first on campus this week. Due to the high 90's temperature, the dorms became almost too much to handle. As a result, students in both dorms where given the option of sleeping in air conditioning. The girls from South Hall spent the night in the Academic Center, which one student commented that AC now stands for both "air conditioning" and "Academic Center." All but six of the boys in North Hall carried mattresses to the Common's Lounge to spend the night. Some of the girls saw the boys in a long line headed to Commons looked like a bunch of ants swarming down the hill. The fact that six hardy boys stayed in the dorm meant that the dorm parent, Paul Agenten, also had to spend the night in the near 100 degree apartment. Above and beyond the call of duty. The heat also caused the maintenance guys, Paul Heinze and Brett Lau, to spend a couple days tracking down some heat pump failures. There were ceiling tiles removed and buckets full of condensatio

Getting Ready!

It's only four days before students begin to show up for registration day this Saturday, August 20, beginning at 12:00 noon. Principal Joel Gullerud has prepared and published a schedule that can be viewed here. The activity level has ramped up the last two weeks with an Academic and Administration workshop attended by the Immanuel faculty and staff. The gym floor was redone by our AD, Dave Rodebaugh. Floors in the Academic Center and Ingram Hall are being deep cleaned by the Faculty. Floors and carpets in the dorms were done by Brett Lau. Many volunteers have assisted in cleaning the dorms. Dorm supervisors Paul and Courtney Agenten are back on site and getting the dorms set for their last year here as Paul graduates from the sem at the end of the year. Anyone ready to step up? Official volleyball practice according to WIAA regulations began Monday which, of course, sets our girls behind a bit. There have been open gyms but obviously not all have been able to make it.
